The Chevrolet Corvette is an iconic sports car, whether it's a new or pre-owned model. However, people in Baltimore who want especially zesty performance should get a Corvette Z06. These high-performance models have white-knuckle acceleration and lithe handling. Ciocca Corvette of Atlantic City has C8 mid-engine Corvettes along with vintage long-hooded models in our used inventory, and we're just two and a half hours from Baltimore via I-95 North.
History of the Chevy Corvette Z06
Original Z06 Package Created in 1963
The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 originated in 1963 when Corvette engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov first developed it as an option package for people who wanted to race their cars at the track. Only 199 Corvettes with the Z06 package were sold in '63, and nearly all were coupes with 360-horsepower V8 engines. Along with aluminum wheels and race-ready suspensions, Z06 models also had upgraded brake components for crisper handling.
Reemergence of the Z06 in 2001
After the 1963 model year, Chevrolet paused production of the Corvette Z06 for nearly 40 years. In 2001, the Corvette Z06 re-emerged as a high-performing car with race-inspired tuning and rear brake cooling ducts integrated into the back fender. It also became one of the first production cars to lap the famous Nürburgring in under eight minutes.
Updated Z06 in 2006 and Z07 Package in 2012
In 2006, Chevrolet upgraded the Z06 with a lighter aluminum frame and an exclusive high-revving 505-horsepower LS7 V8 engine. In 2012, a Z07 package with carbon-fiber addenda, MagneRide adaptive dampers, carbon-ceramic rotors, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires became available for even more spirited driving.
First Z06 with an Automatic Transmission in 2015
In 2015, a monstrous, 650-horsepower supercharged V8 was introduced into the Chevrolet Corvette lineup. The C7 Chevy Corvette Z06 became the first with an optional automatic transmission as well as the first to offer targa and convertible body styles.
Z06 Revived with Mid-Engine Body Style in 2023
In 2023, Chevrolet resurrected the Z06 Corvette in the new mid-engine body style. Its naturally aspirated flat-plane-crank V8 produces 670 horsepower – making it the most powerful Corvette ever. It also became the first Corvette Z06 with an automatic transmission only.
Finding Your Ideal Pre-Owned Corvette Z06 Model
A pre-owned Chevy Corvette Z06 will cost less than a brand-new model because of depreciation. However, Corvette owners tend to take meticulous care of their cars, so a used Corvette Z06 will likely be in excellent condition. Baltimore drivers will appreciate that each Corvette Z06 comes with a complimentary CARFAX vehicle history report that shows the car's title history, past maintenance, and whether it's been in a reported accident.
Some of our Baltimore customers prefer the curvier, longer-hooded Chevy Corvette Z06 models from the previous generations (prior to 2020). Others like the current mid-engine models with improved weight balance. Luckily, we have both versions in our used inventory, so you can have a car with the look and style you desire. Convertible Corvette Z06 models are available, as well.
Certified Pre-Owned Chevy Corvette Z06
For even more peace of mind, consider buying a certified pre-owned Chevy Corvette Z06. These cars can be no more than six years old and have fewer than 75,000 miles on the odometer. People in Baltimore will like their lengthy, factory-backed warranties. They also come with 24/7 roadside assistance, just in case you should need it.
