The Chevy Corvette is a legendary American sports car with worldwide appeal. What began as an effort by Chevrolet to pull out of a sales slump in the early 1950’s led to the creation of a national treasure. Ciocca Corvette has a wide selection of new and used Corvette models for sale in Atlantic City, NJ. As America’s largest Corvette dealer, we also serve drivers from Baltimore to Florida.
The Chevrolet Corvette Debuts in 1953
The Chevrolet Corvette made its debut at General Motor’s 1953 Motorama show in New York, NY. Named after a small, maneuverable warship, the first Corvette was a convertible with a six-cylinder engine. It was also the first mass-produced car built with a fiberglass body.
The Corvette Stingray Is Introduced
In 1963, Chevrolet introduced the first Corvette Stingray model. This version had a longer nose; a short, tapered tail; and a split-window design that was unique to the first-year coupes. The Corvette underwent many changes in the years to follow, including complete redesigns in 1984 and 1997.
The High-Performance Z06 and the Eighth Generation Mid-Engine Design
For the past 25 years, Chevrolet has increased the Corvette’s power and speed. The Z06 model arrived in 2001 with a 385-horsepower V8 engine. This motor was boosted to 650 horsepower in 2015. The eighth Corvette generation began in 2020 with the current mid-engine design and shorter hood.
